A Date With Allyson

Tonight was my date night with Allyson. I love that the kids enjoy having a special time with me, even if we aren't doing big or exciting things.

The beginning...
Ally and I took our bikes to Clover Creek trail and went around the loop once. She said the wind was too hard to do another loop so once was apparently enough. She chattered the whole way through the trail. And in case you were wondering, she really knows how to use her brakes, I think her tires are smoking by the she gets stopped! I'm pretty sure she'll go through new bike tires monthly!

After our ride, we headed to the store to purchase "Tangled," then drove through McDonalds for a kid's meal, jumped over to Rite-Aid for a couple of scoops of ice cream, then home to eat the feast in front of the TV as we watched Tangled.

The evening was light, simple and fun. She chatted at me non-stop. One of the things I notice when I'm with each of the girls by themselves is they never (and I mean never) run out of things to say. When they're all 3 in the car, I have to monitor who's turn it is to ask me a question because they all want to have their say, so I think they use the alone time to just go for it! Haha!

Some of the things she talked about were about as random as Emily's conversation recently, and changed topics with each breath...

"Nana, some turtles are green, but some are blue. (Really? Interesting...) My dad rides on this trail with me but sometimes he goes on bigger trails so he can get more extracise. (Would that be extra exercise? lol) Did you know that turtles have sticky points on their legs? (Why no, I didn't.) Nana, you should tell mommy a knock knock joke. (I asked which one.) She said, Knock Knock! (I said who's there.) Chicken! (I said chicken who?) She said, Chicken crazy grass!! (And then she wildly laughed like it was the funniest joke she ever heard! Yep, I'm definitely tell Jamie that knock knock joke next time I see her!) Nana, did you know turtles have very hard shells? (Okay, so what's with all the turtle talk?)

My "aha moment" was when she got out of the car and I saw she had a little plastic toy turtle in her hand, thus the turtle questions. Then she told me that if you dig very deep in the sandbox you find treasures like the turtle. I have to admit that when I picture digging in the sandbox for treasure, I picture what might have been left behind by the neighborhood cats.

At the end of our evening she went to bed to read during my shower. When I got out I found...

So that concludes Allyson's night with me. I realize it may not be an exciting post but I love saving these memories for reading someday when the kids are all older and going in 15 different directions.

That last picture is so sweet! I would say that the evening was a success!

To clarify, she found the blue (hence why some turtles are blue) turtle in her sandbox at school. Some poor kid probably lost it.
